The Birth of Party Press

After studying SEO using Lynda.com and taking a UX Design class at QUT, I was itching to practice my newly acquired skills. During a lunch break, I brainstormed with my old boss about businesses I could operate from my home computer. I’d also recently read a book title the 4 Hour Work Week, so I was a little hooked on the dream of an online income. I decided on a t-shirt business in the hens and bucks party niche. Narrowing my target market would potentially allow me to stand out in an overpopulated industry.

Weekend Business

Over the course of a weekend, I created Party Press. I registered the business, designed the branding, built the website, found suppliers, set up the online store, skinned the social media pages and started to optimise the website. In the week that followed, I spent time researching keywords and testing changes as I climbed the SERPS. Now that I had a real business, I could invest a little time and money into AdWords and Facebook campaigns. The goal was to learn, and that I did.

WordPress Theme Installation

The website was created using the Nostalgia Responsive WordPress theme from ThemeForest. Once installed, modifications were made to reflect the requirements for the Party Press site.

Search Engine Optimisation

Research was conducted using Google’s AdWords Keyword Tool and implemented using Yoast. The site now ranks on the first page of Google for many searches, including “hens party t-shirts” and “bucks party t-shirts”.

Social Media Strategy

Custom Facebook, Twitter and Google+ pages were created and branded with the Party Press brand and imagery. Facebook ad campaigns were used to promote launch specials and competitions. The placement of the Facebook likes at the top of the page has seen a large number of organic likes.

Online Store Setup

An online store which enables visitors to pay with PayPal was created using Big Cartel and linked to the Party Press site. A fully functional store app as also added to the Party Press Facebook page.
